A Tribute to my Grandfather

In memory of our dear Appachan..

When i think about Appachan the first picture that runs to my mind is that of a simple, hardworking, God fearing person and ofcourse the white jubba and mundu that characterized Appachan. A profound reader, writer, pet lover, plant lover, teacher..these were just a few facets of his personality. Appachan’s selfless and tireless service to the church and community described who he was. I have always felt very proud and happy to be known as Tharian sir’s granddaughter. For such a simple man to be known in any Jacobite church you go anywhere in the world, there definitely has to be a strong reason, and it is undoubtedly the life that Appachan led.

I still remember the early morning and evening prayers Appachan and Amma never missed even a single day, the simple and healthy daily routines, the morning and noon time radio that never stopped playing even after technology intrusions, the water well that welcomed Appachan every evening before dinner- he never gave up his habit of drawing well water for shower, Appachan’s favourite companion ‘his umbrella’ that went walking everywhere with him, Appachans study room where he ended every day writing and dozing off.
The pomp and pride in the world never influenced Appachan in his life style or habits, simplicity and honesty adorned him, he lived a prayerful life till his last day on earth. Waited exactly a year after Amma left, and as though he knew the exact day and time of his departure from his earthly abode, he left peacefully and fully prepared leaving behind 3 children, 5 grandchildren and 4 great grand children.

A Blessed person, a true Christian and a role model for many..that was our Appachan
